December 1999 my mom was diagnose with cancer of the right breast. I was only four and she was twenty six years old. I was too young to understand what was going on. Within a week or two of her diagnosis she had to get a lumpectomy, (lumpectomy is a surgical procedure in which a lump is removed from the breast, when cancer is present but has not spread.) and removal of four lymph-nodes which were under her arms.
January 2000, she flew to the United States to get better treatment while I was left in the care of an adult who was much old than her. She began treatment immediately at the Kings County Hospital. Her doctors (Doctor. Lewis and Doctor. Braverman) placed her on 30 rounds of three different chemotherapy for six weeks; including the red devil. In the end it was a successful treatment which placed her in remission but, took her months to recover from the side effects. Some of these side effects included loss of hair, loss of appetite, weakness etc.
